How am I affected, How are you affected

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 3 months ago

According to about.com,"Young males returning home following tours of duty overseas during World War II

began families, which brought about a significant number of new children into the world." 1946, the first year of

the noted baby boom, there were 3.47 million births alone. Because of the large population increase, so many

aspects of these nations were affected, such as rises in the demand for consumer products; homes, automobiles,

roads, etc.

An increase in population means an increase in the amount of clothes needed, which was like a kid in a candy shop to the fashion world.

So how is my generation and I affected by what our parents wore in their adolescent age, disreguarding for making fun of them of course.

Well, products in fashion that were widely popular during the 1950's and the 1960's are starting to rise again. One in particular are the

Chuck Taylors, also known as Converse. My dad mentioned that he used to wear them " during my teen years to play basketball", and I

wear them now. Could the fact that a lot of teens parents that were baby boomers wear converse because their parents did? I might. My

father has horrible taste in fashion, as do I. According to wikipedia.com, "When the United States entered World War II in 1941, Converse

shifted production to manufacturing footwear, apparel, boots, parkas, rubber protective suits, and ponchos for pilots and troops." So, it turns

out that not only are Converse present in my life, and my parents life, but also my grandparents life, being that the company was founded in the

early 1900's.

Some other products modern day teens may be familiar with now are skinny jeans, waist belts and leggings. Now of course there are other styles

from different periods in history that people use today, but they are somewhat irrelevant. So now, all the "hip" modern fashionable people of my

generation can unwillingly thank their parents and the fashion people from the past for their "glorious" sense of styles. Also, like anything over time,

these styles have changed to fit the demands of the consumers living in the year 2007, but the roots of these styles remain vintage.
